KSU agriculture dean takes job at Colorado State

? A well-known figure in Kansas agriculture is moving one state to the west.

Marc Johnson, dean of the Kansas State University College of Agriculture and director of K-State Research and Extension, has accepted a position as vice provost for agriculture and outreach and dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State University.

K-State President Jon Wefald said, “Dr. Marc Johnson is one of the truly great deans of agriculture that K-State has ever had. The College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension have all improved tremendously under Marc Johnson’s outstanding leadership. There is no question that he will be missed at K-State. And we wish him the very best in his new position.”

Provost James R. Coffman said, “The College of Agriculture, and K-State Research and Extension have made huge advances during Marc Johnson’s tenure as dean and director. His leadership has had a major positive impact on program quality.”

At K-State, Johnson has been responsible for the administration of the teaching, research, extension and international programs in agriculture and related areas. He was named dean of agriculture in March 1994 after serving as interim dean since September 1992. Previously he was head of K-State’s department of agricultural economics beginning in 1985.

Before coming to K-State, Johnson worked at Oklahoma State University and North Carolina State University in teaching, research and extension. The author of numerous scientific publications and articles, he has done extensive research in the areas of marketing and transportation systems and public policy economics.

Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Emporia State University, a master of technology in international development in economics from North Carolina State University and a master’s in economics and a doctorate in agricultural economics both from Michigan State University.
