Home tattoo parlor raided after tongue of teen gets infected

? Police have ticketed a man they suspect of illegally tattooing and body piercing up to 100 teenagers in his apartment at discount rates.

Vaden W. Floyd, 35, was ticketed for operating a business without a license and piercing a minor without parental consent. He was booked on two unrelated warrants for misdemeanor bad check charges and then released.

Officers arrested Floyd on Tuesday night after he agreed to pierce the belly button of a teenage girl working undercover for police, said vice unit Sgt. Brad Dumit.

Floyd circulated business cards among the students and charged $10 to $20 for body piercing, Dumit said, compared with $50 that tattoo parlors typically charge.

But Dumit said Floyd “did not have the means to sterilize his equipment properly.”

Dumit said the teens would sit or lie on Floyd’s bed while he worked on them. From photos and calendar appointments, Dumit estimated Floyd worked on about 100 teens.

But Floyd disagreed. He said he tattooed only some of his friends at his home and pierced five to six teenagers. He said he did not know tattooing and body piercing at his home was illegal.

“I had no idea I was supposed to have a license,” he said. “I should have checked into it.”

The case got started after a 14-year-old girl told police that her tongue became infected after Floyd pierced it on April 19, without getting parental approval. The girl’s family filed a police report.

Dumit said investigators found tattoo needles, tattoo ink and piercing needles in Floyd’s bedroom. They saw blood droplets on his desk and bed. They also found photos of pierced and tattooed teens on Floyd’s computer.
