Lawrence legislator to resign House seat

Findley to take position as Sebelius' legislative liaison

State Rep. Troy Findley, D-Lawrence, will resign from the Legislature to take a key position with Gov.-elect Kathleen Sebelius’ administration, it was announced Friday.

Findley, 38, recently elected to his fifth term in the House, will become Sebelius’ legislative liaison.

In that post, he will be the main person in Sebelius’ office dealing with the Legislature.

“This is a great honor for me to be invited to serve on the staff. This is a challenging time for the state,” Findley said.

Findley’s resignation from the Legislature will take effect Jan. 12, the day before the start of the 2003 legislative session.

Findley’s replacement in the Legislature will be elected by Democratic precinct committee men and women of his district. An election will probably be held within a week and a new representative sworn into office during the first week of the legislative session.
