Police arrest suspect in rape, kidnapping

? A Kansas City man was charged Monday with taking a young woman to a motel and raping her repeatedly after her car broke down.

The Jackson County prosecutor’s office charged the 36-year-old man with forcible rape, sodomy and kidnapping.

Prosecutors said the suspect helped push the 18-year-old woman’s car onto a side street Sunday night when it broke down. He then told her to sit in the back seat of his car and she could use his mobile phone to call for help, according to the probable cause statement.

Instead of waiting for the woman to make a call, the suspect drove her and his girlfriend — who was sleeping in the back seat — to a Kansas City motel, police said.

Prosecutors said the suspect told the woman that she could make a call from one of the rooms. When she said would rather use the phone at the front desk, the suspect pulled her inside the room and raped her, police said. She also was made to participate in sexual acts with the suspect’s girlfriend, according to a police statement.

The woman escaped from the room naked early Monday when the suspect went to the bathroom, the statement said.

Police in Leawood, Kan., arrested the suspect later Monday after spotting him driving a car that matched the victim’s description of the vehicle. He was jailed Monday night in Johnson County, Kan., pending an extradition hearing.
