Kansas City, Mo A Warrensburg man pleaded guilty Thursday to possessing two pipe bombs that were seized from his home along with antigovernment literature and information about weapons of mass destruction.
Lawrence Wayne Logan, 23, was charged in October with possessing illegal explosives.
U.S. Atty. Todd P. Graves said that by pleading guilty Logan admitted he placed two pipe bombs in the bedroom of his home.
A criminal complaint alleges that deputies from Johnson County, Mo., found the pipe bombs in a briefcase and a camera bag while searching Logan's home Oct. 7 as part of a homicide investigation. The pipe bombs were disabled by a U.S. Air Force bomb disposal team.
The deputies said they also recovered handwritten notes that contained bomb-making information and diagrams. Other material included writings about the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, noting that it was a "good start."
An affidavit said authorities also seized documents that described the production of weapons of mass destruction, including anthrax.
Logan could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in federal prison without parole and pay a fine of as much as $10,000. The sentencing date has not been scheduled.
