Poll suggests large lead for Sebelius

? A Harris News Service poll suggests Democrat Kathleen Sebelius held a significant lead over Republican Tim Shallenburger heading into the final two weeks of the gubernatorial campaign.

The poll combined responses from respondents who said they had a definite choice and those who said they were undecided but leaning toward a candidate.

The poll said 53 percent of those surveyed supported Sebelius, compared to 34 percent for Shallenburger. It said 12 percent were undecided, with Libertarian Dennis Hawver and Reform Party candidate Ted Pettibone splitting 1 percent.

The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 5 percentage points.

MarketAide Services, a Salina marketing and communications firm, conducted the poll. It contacted 402 Kansans from Oct. 15-22, randomly selecting people who had voted in two or more previous elections among the last four primaries or general elections.
