Officer charged in sexual assault

? A police officer is charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a man who worked on a cleaning crew at a state parole office.

Brian Dupree, 36, has been a member of the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department for six years, and he was on duty at the time of the alleged offenses.

Dupree was being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on $100,000 bond after being charged Tuesday with two counts of sexual battery, two of attempted aggravated criminal sodomy, one of kidnapping and one of aggravated assault.

Dist. Atty. Nick Tomasic said the charges were connected to an Oct. 30 incident that involving a 26-year-old man who finished work at 1 a.m. and went outside the parole office to use a pay phone.

Tomasic said that Dupree allegedly drove up in an unmarked police car and told the man to get in the back seat.

Tomasic said that Dupree allegedly displayed his handgun and demanded that the man perform oral sex, which he refused to do. Dupree is then accused of driving around for a while and returning to the parole office. Tomasic said the two men went inside and that Dupree made another demand for sex, which was refused.

Tomasic said outdoor surveillance cameras recorded portions of the attack.

“The tapes did not catch the actual acts,” Tomasic said. “They confirmed the victim was where and when he said he was.”
