Preps Notebook: Local boys golf teams stay busy with multiple invites over the week

Lawrence golfer Corbin May-Bryant won the Hall of Fame Classic on Monday against 23 other golfers as the Lions finished second in the competition as a team.
Of the four teams present, Lawrence scored 312 points, which was one behind the champions from Olathe South. The Lions beat out Spring Hill by seven and Shawnee Mission South by 24.
May-Bryant scored a 74 in the classic, which was two strokes over par. He had birdies on the seventh and 10th holes, which were a par three and a par four, respectively. He finished over par on three holes.
Lawrence’s Jackson Lind finished sixth with a 78, and Lou Elsten placed ninth by shooting a 79. Andrew Kirkwood took 12th at 9-over, and Willie Dobson shot a 91 for 21st. Jonah Roman shot a 101 for 24th individually.
Lawrence will get back on the golf course on Tuesday for the second round of the Sunflower League invitational at Eagle Bend Golf Course.
Tonganoxie, Eudora compete in 4A boys golf invitationals
Tonganoxie’s boys golf team won the Ottawa Invitational on Monday, beating seven other teams to top the invitational.
The Chieftains finished with a 310 team score, which was five strokes better than the runner-up Louisburg team. Eudora finished seventh of the eight teams with a 390 team score.
Lachlan McRae led the Chieftains by finishing third individually with a 75. Luke McRae finished one stroke behind Lachlan at 76, which put him fourth in the individual leaderboard. Carson Heffel placed seventh by shooting a 79.
William Dohrn took 11th and Cameron Wensel placed 12th after both shot 80 in the invitational. Griffith Dean shot a 91, which put him 26th on the individual leaderboard.
For Eudora, Brayden Gregory shot a 94, which put him 32nd individually. Luke Watts placed right behind him after scoring a 95, and Garrett Moorman made three Cardinals in a row on the leaderboard by shooting a 96. Breaker Amyx shot a 105, which put him 38th.
Eudora golfed in the Maur Hill Mount Academy Invitational Wednesday morning and finished fifth as a team out of 12 schools. The Cardinals finished with a 367 team score, which put them behind Olathe North and ahead of Oskaloosa.
Joey Mastro led the Cardinals with a 12th-place finish by shooting an 83. Watts placed 30th with a 92, and Lash Kueffer shot a 93, which put him 34th. Bryce VanDonge finished with a 99 that put him 43rd, and Moorman shot a 111, which was 56th in the invite.
Bishop Seabury’s Jace Hoffman was also golfing at the Maur Hill Mount Academy Invitational and finished eighth individually after he shot a 79 on the day.
Perry-Lecompton boys golf finishes strong in back-to-back invitationals
The Perry-Lecompton boys golf team competed in the Holton Invitational on Monday and the Humboldt Invitational on Tuesday and finished in the top three in both events.
The Kaws finished third in the Holton Invitational behind Nemaha County and ahead of Jefferson West with a team score of 333.
Toby Wagner led the Kaws on Monday with a third-place finish by shooting a 74 with four birdies. Ethan Tolbert finished fourth with a 77, which was seven strokes above par.
Colton Bahnmaier finished 22nd with an 89, and Logan Herman shot a 93 that put him 24th individually. Dalton Morey placed 25th with a 95, and Easton Graves shot a 98 that put him 27th.
The Kaws were the runners-up the following day against eight other schools in the Humboldt Invitational. The Kaws finished with a 353 team score, which was one stroke behind first-place Iola.
Wagner led the team again with a third-place finish with an 82 score, and Morey finished eighth by shooting an 89. Herman rounded out the individual top 10 by shooting a 90.
Walker Gray shot a 92, which put him 13th individually. Bahnmaier finished one stroke behind Gray for the 14th spot on the individual leaderboard, and Tolbert shot a 94 for 17th.
