The fall sports season is here, and local athletes have already started the year with strong performances in the first few weeks of action. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Zoey Barber, Lawrence

Lawrence flag football is off to an undefeated start to the year, and Zoey Barber is a big reason why. The cornerback and receiver scores on both ends of the field, gets sacks on defense and is a consistent receiver on offense.

Reece Wilmes, Free State

The Free State offense had a dominant run-game performance in a 38-20 win over Blue Valley West on Thursday. The offensive line, led by Reece Wilmes at left tackle, opened running lanes for the Firebirds to accrue 269 yards on 44 carries.
