Bishop Seabury senior Josie Kim turns a corner toward the goal in a 5-1 win over Maranatha Christian at Bishop Seabury Academy on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Lawrence.

Regional tournament assignments were announced for baseball, softball and girls soccer on Saturday by KSHSAA. Here’s where each local team will be next week:

Baseball

The Sunflower League champion Free State Firebirds enter the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the 6A West and will host a regional on Thursday. The Firebirds drew No. 16 Derby (7-19) in the first game and will face either No. 8 Topeka (12-11) or No. 9 Wichita Heights (12-12) if the Firebirds win in the first round. Of the three teams in the regional, Free State has only faced Wichita Heights. The Firebirds won the game 19-10 on the road on April 19.

The Lawrence Lions enter the regional as the No. 16 seed in the East and will play at No. 1 Olathe West on Wednesday. A win would put the Lions against the winner of No. 8 Olathe South (16-9) or No. 9 Blue Valley North (16-10). The Lions played the other three teams in the regional and lost those three games.

As the No. 8 seed in the 4A East, Tonganoxie (14-11) will play in the No. 1 Topeka-Hayden (22-0) regional on Wednesday. The Chieftains start with No. 9 El Dorado (14-12), with a potential game against Topeka Hayden or No. 16 Augusta (8-15) later in the day. Tonganoxie lost earlier in the year to Topeka-Hayden 10-8 but beat Augusta 8-2.

Baldwin (11-12) is the No. 11 seed in the 4A East, meaning they’ll play in the No. 3 Paola (23-3) regional. The Bulldogs start with No. 6 Independence (11-5) and would play the winner of Paola or No. 14 Chanute (9-16) with a first-round win. Baldwin lost 5-1 to Paola but hasn’t faced the other two schools.

No. 13 Eudora (8-14) will start in the No. 4 Rock Creek regional (19-6) and will play the hosts in the first round. A win there would put the Cardinals up against No. 5 Louisburg (17-6) or No. 12 Ottawa (10-15). The Cardinals have lost to Ottawa twice — 8-4 and 5-4 — and split against Louisburg — winning 5-4 and losing 9-0.

Perry-Lecompton holds the No. 3 seed in the 3A Bishop Ward regional after going 14-10 in the regular season. The Kaws beat No. 6 Bishop Ward in the first round 11-2 and will face No. 7 Osawatomie (8-11) on Wednesday. A win would put them in the regional championship against either No. 4 Heritage Christian Academy (11-10) or No. 1 Jefferson West (23-2).

Softball

Lawrence went 18-8 in the regular season and earned the No. 6 seed in the 6A East regional. They’ll start with No. 11 Shawnee Mission North (9-14) at the Olathe District Activity Center on Thursday. A win would put the Lions in the regional championship against either No. 3 Olathe North (22-4) or No. 14 Wyandotte (5-9). The Lions beat Shawnee Mission North 11-1 on Wednesday and lost to Olathe North 3-1 on May 6.

No. 10 Free State (10-15) will start in the second 6A West regional and will face No. 7 Wichita-Northwest (13-11) on Tuesday. A win would put the Firebirds against either No. 2 Derby (19-7) or No. 15 Dodge City (3-23). The Firebirds haven’t played any of the teams in the regional.

Eudora earned the No. 1 seed in the 4A East with a 23-1 record. The Cardinals will host and will start with No. 16 Parsons (4-15) on Tuesday. A win that day would put the Cardinals in the regional championship against either No. 8 Holton (13-9) or No. 9 Chanute (13-10). Eudora has not played any of those teams this year.

No. 5 Tonganoxie finished 17-8 and came close to hosting a regional but will be at Rock Creek on Wednesday. The Chieftains start with No. 12 Ottawa (12-12) before a chance to win the region against either No. 4 Rock Creek (17-8) or No. 13 El Dorado (8-14) with a first-round win. The Chieftains faced Ottawa twice in the regular season and won both by a score of 10-0.

Baldwin finished with the No. 10 seed at 12-11 in the regular season. They’ll travel to Wamego for their regional tournament, starting with No. 7 Atchison (14-8) on Tuesday. A win in that game would put the Bulldogs in the regional championship against either No. 2 Wamego (19-4) or No. 15 Independence (6-14).

Perry-Lecompton holds the No. 6 seed in the 3A Wellsville regional with an 8-18 record. The Kaws start with No. 3 Pomona-West Franklin (13-9) on Monday. They’d have to win again on Tuesday in order to play in the regional championship later that day.

Girls soccer

Free State starts with the No. 10 seed with a 7-8-1 record. The Firebirds start at No. 7 Wichita North (8-7-1) on Tuesday. A win would put the Firebirds against either No. 2 Derby (14-2) or No. 15 Wichita Heights on Thursday. The Firebirds haven’t played any of the teams in the regional this season.

Lawrence holds the No. 15 seed in the regional tournament and will start at No. 2 Mill Valley (13-2-1) on Monday. A win would put the Lions in the championship on Thursday against either No. 7 Blue Valley West (9-6) or No. 10 Olathe West (8-7-1). The Lions lost 5-0 to Mill Valley earlier in the year and lost 2-1 to Olathe West on April 29.

Bishop Seabury will host the No. 4 regional after finishing with a 10-3 record in the regular season. The Seahawks host No. 13 Bishop Ward (1-14) on Monday and, with a win, would host No. 5 Bishop Miege (11-5) or No. 12 Chanute (3-12-1) in the regional championship on Wednesday. Of the three other teams, Bishop Seabury faced Bishop Ward on April 22 and won 5-0 at home.

Eudora — the No. 6 seed, 9-5-2 — will host No. 11 Ottawa (4-11) on Tuesday for a chance to play in the regional championship on Thursday against either No. 3 Atchison (13-3) or No. 14 Paola (0-13-2).

No. 7 Tonganoxie (8-7-1) will host No. 10 Maranatha Christian Academy (5-9) on Monday, with the winner facing No. 2 Kansas City Christian (13-3) in the regional championship on Thursday.

Baldwin is the No. 9 seed in the 4-1A East after finishing with a 7-8-1 regular season record. The Bulldogs will be on the road to face No. 8 Heritage Christian Academy (8-8) on Monday. A win would put the Bulldogs in the regional championship against No. 1 Louisburg (13-3) on Thursday.
