Letter to the editor: In defense of Lawrence
To the editor:
Bob Lewis, a state representative from Garden City, said in a recent legislative hearing that “Lawrence is crazy.” I realize that Lewis may have been trying to be humorous, but I don’t think that this comment was appropriate in a public, legislative setting. I have lived in Lawrence for 59 years, and although it is not perfect, I know that Lawrence is not crazy! It is a decent place to live. I should add that I began my career in Garden City where I served as a teacher of American history and government from 1959 to 1962. We loved Garden City, and we would have stayed in Garden City if the additional education I needed had been available within driving distance. Garden City was, and I assume is still, a decent place to live.
Ray Hiner,
Lawrence
