Letter to the editor: Do ‘they’ really think we are this indecent?

To the editor:

Do “they” really think all we care about is the price of gasoline?

Who do “they” think we are? People with no moral code, like them, only not as rich?

That low gas prices are more important to us than decency? That it is OK to sell our soul by buying fuel from Russia in order to lower gas prices? Do “they” think this will make us happy and forget that Russia’s beleaguered neighbor Ukraine is fighting Russia for its existence?

That we are all excited to watch a public execution on TV? Such a spectacle is not only morally reprehensible, but would ensure that U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan will become the martyr he hoped to be, and encourage others to follow suit. But ho-hum, please lower the gas prices before you execute him.

The list of examples concerning the erosion of our sense of ourselves as good people working to make the world a better place is long and profoundly sad. Much sadder to me than the price of gasoline.

I know I am fortunate to have health care when so many do not, but the $90 bonus Social Security check I received recently (intended to offset the hike of more than $100 a month to my already high premium) has been sent to the Adam Hamilton campaign.

Maybe a new senator in Washington will help. He seems like a fellow with a moral code and a sense of decency. We have to start somewhere.
