Letter to the editor: Homelessness is here to stay
To the editor:
The City of Lawrence has a new policy for the homeless. You seriously think this plan will succeed? Take a moment and ask yourself why the military conducts covert operations. By doing so, the enemy doesn’t know what’s going on. So, just because these people are homeless doesn’t mean that they can’t read or are stupid. With the help of the newspaper, the City of Lawrence just broadcast that the policy was going to focus on locals. Word spreads like wildfire. By this evening, the 414 homeless counted in January will miraculously all be locals. The city basically just told everyone about the new plan for two reasons. One, to make us, the locals, think they are actually doing something constructive about homelessness. That’s a smoke screen. Secondly, to warn the homeless to become locals if they plan on staying. The city foolishly thought it could curb homelessness. Didn’t the City start a homeless plan around 2017? Could be wrong. How’s it working out so far?
Anyway, homelessness is here to stay in Lawrence. No plan will work. The plans in California and New York are working great too. Maybe we adopt theirs. We will have 500 homeless in this city by year’s end.
