Aaron B. Wright, left, appears Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, in Douglas County District Court.
A man accused of stabbing a 35-year-old Lawrence woman to death in August appeared in court Wednesday to schedule a hearing for his multiple criminal cases, including second-degree murder.
Aaron Blake Wright, 63, is facing charges of criminal threat, battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct from a March case, as well as burglary and theft charges from an August case.
In addition to those cases, Wright is accused of killing Jina Anne Reyes, also known as Jina Reyes-Woehler, according to her mother and sister, who were present in the courtroom for Wednesday’s brief hearing.
Reyes-Woehler’s body was found early in the day on Aug. 29 behind a vacant building in the 1800 block of Massachusetts Street. She was a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and the mother of two children.
At the hearing Wednesday, Judge Amy Hanley set all three cases for a status conference on Nov. 19.
In the murder case, Wright is being held on a $1 million cash or surety bond in the Douglas County Jail. His attorneys on Wednesday asked Hanley to revoke his bond in the other two cases so that he could start accruing jail time toward his potential sentences.
Wright has a lengthy criminal record, including two convictions for attempted first-degree murder in Douglas County in 1996. He was released from prison in that case in 2013, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. He was accused of having sent an explosive device to the home of a woman who shared his last name.
He is next scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19.
