Person fatally struck by train in eastern Lawrence; preliminary evidence points to suicide

A person was hit and killed by a train Thursday evening in eastern Lawrence, according to Lawrence police.
Police believe that preliminary evidence points to suicide. A spokesperson for the department told the Journal-World it was “a sad situation for everyone involved — the family and friends of the person who died, the train operators, and the first responders.”
Police had blocked off 11th Street just east of Haskell Avenue, but opened the road later Thursday night.
