1 dead, 2 injured in 2-vehicle crash northeast of Lawrence

One person is dead and two other people have been taken to hospitals after a two-vehicle crash northeast of Lawrence on Saturday evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokesman George Diepenbrock said in an email that the crash occurred at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 24-40 between East 1600 and East 1675 roads. The location is just east of the Lawrence airport.

Diepenbrock said the sheriff’s office was investigating the cause of the crash, and that the accident scene was closed to traffic. He asked motorists to avoid the area.
