Emergency vehicles are seen in the intersection at Kansas Highway 10 and West 27th Street on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023. K-10 was shut down after 4 p.m. Monday as crews worked the scene of a serious injury accident.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon asked drivers to avoid Kansas Highway 10, especially between U.S. Highway 59 (Iowa Street) west to Wakarusa Drive/West 27th Street as law enforcement agencies investigate a serious injury crash that occurred on K-10.
K-10 is closed from Iowa Street west to Bob Billings Parkway and will be for several hours, said George Diepenbrock, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at 4 p.m. Monday to K-10 near the intersection with Wakarusa Drive. Deputies and Lawrence Police Department officers were assisting Kansas Highway Patrol troopers at the scene with traffic control and witness statements.
Drivers traveling southwest of Lawrence should avoid the South Lawrence Trafficway west of Iowa Street and seek an alternate route.
