A Lawrence man on Thursday was given two additional years of probation for violating the Kansas Sex Offenders Registration Act, but that sentence won’t be served until he resolves his federal indictment for child sex crimes in Wisconsin.
Gerald Lavern “Doon” Pamaska, 54, originally from Keshena, Wisconsin, was convicted in November 2019 of aggravated sexual battery for sexually assaulting a woman at a liquor store. Judge Stacey Donovan sentenced him to three years in prison, which she then suspended to three years of probation.
As part of his sentence, Pamaska was ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years, but he failed to comply with his registration requirements between November 2020 and March 2021 and was charged with a felony for violating the terms of registration.
Donovan sentenced him on Thursday to an additional 24 months and restarted his original 36 months of probation for a total of five years of probation. She then ordered Pamaska to report to his probation officer as soon as he was released from jail.
Pamaska’s defense attorney, Michael Clarke, said that Pamaska may not report for that probation for some time as he has a federal hold at the jail.
In the federal case, as the Journal-World previously reported, Pamaska is charged with one count of sexual assault of a child under the age of 12, according to charging documents from the U.S. District Court of Eastern Wisconsin. The charge relates to an incident on July 25, 2019, at the Menominee Indian Reservation.
After the sentencing Thursday, Pamaska was returned to the Douglas County Jail, where he’ll await the next move in the federal case.
