Lawrence residents will get a chance this weekend to see their police department’s K-9 officers compete against dogs from other departments.

The 3rd annual K-9 Games, created and hosted by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, will take place Sunday with 14 K-9 teams.

Lawrence police dogs Mack and Shadow will compete alongside their handlers, Kevin Henderson and Josh Doncouse, both corporals with LPD.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a car show, followed by the K-9 competition at 1 p.m. at the Stormont Vail Events Center, 1 Expocentre Drive, in Topeka. Food trucks will be on site throughout the event.

“It’s a chance to see firsthand the extraordinary amount of trust, skill, training and partnership that exist between working dogs and their handlers,” the Lawrence department said in a news release Friday.

Admission is a freewill donation to benefit Special Olympics Kansas.
