An 18-year-old Lawrence man accused of attempted murder for a North Lawrence shooting earlier this year was arrested again on Friday.

Alejandro Martinez-Diaz was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Friday on suspicion of criminal possession of a firearm, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log. The arrest was made at the Douglas County Pretrial Services Office, where he was ordered to be monitored while out on bond for the attempted murder case.

Lawrence police did not immediately respond to the Journal-World’s request for more information about the arrest. However, it is likely related to the conditions of Martinez-Diaz’s bond, which included a court order barring him from possessing or using a firearm, according to a pretrial monitoring order provided to the Journal-World.

Martinez-Diaz is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder for a May 27 shooting in North Lawrence. Ontareo X. Jackson, 18, was also arrested in the case and faces the same charges, the Journal-World reported.

The charges are level-three felonies and come with a minimum 55-month sentence in prison, about 4.5 years, for each charge, according to the state’s sentencing guidelines.

Lawrence police originally arrested Martinez-Diaz on May 28. He was later released from jail after posting a $75,000 cash or surety bond. Jackson was arrested on Aug. 3 but did not post bail. They are now both in Douglas County Jail custody.

Both men are scheduled for a preliminary hearing for Oct. 14.
