Police are investigating after a shooting was reported in North Lawrence on Thursday.
Shortly after 7 p.m., a man called 911 and said a woman in his vehicle had been shot near the intersection of North Seventh Street and North Street, Major Trent McKinley of the Lawrence Police Department said Friday.
The woman was hit by at least one shot and suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening, McKinley said, and the man who was driving the vehicle transported her to LMH Health. McKinley said officers spoke with the woman, the occupants of the vehicle and nearby residents who heard gunfire, and that police believe one or more people in another vehicle fired “numerous gunshots” at the vehicle the woman was in.
McKinley said the suspect’s vehicle, which was described as a gray or silver sedan, fled the area after the shooting. He said police also believe some of the people in both vehicles knew one another. As of Friday afternoon, no arrests had been made in the incident.
