A Lawrence woman who reportedly groped, exposed her body to and engaged in sexualized conversation with two teens was sentenced Wednesday to 24 months of probation.

Alisia A. Cheek, 30, had been charged with two felonies: aggravated indecent liberties with a child who was 13, and indecent liberties with a child who was 14, according to the complaint filed against her in Douglas County District Court.

However, Cheek entered a plea agreement, which dropped her charges to two counts of aggravated battery against the two teens. The case had been set for jury trials but was continued multiple times prior to the plea.

When questioned by police, one of the teens reportedly said Cheek groped him while they were wrestling and said she had been “flirty” with him, tried to sit on his lap, once came into a room he was in wearing only underpants, and once had propositioned him for sex and asked him to show his genitals.

The other teen reportedly told police that Cheek had groped her crotch, also while wrestling, and on another occasion groped her breast. She said Cheek had exposed herself to her and propositioned her for sexual activity, suggesting she might be a lesbian and that they could “just give it a shot.”

Both children told police that the inappropriate actions happened when Cheek was drunk, according to documents in the case.

Cheek’s appointed defense attorney, Michael Clarke, told Judge Sally Pokorny Wednesday that through the long process of the case, Cheek had gone through personal growth. He said sobriety had been a big issue, and now that she had attained it she was much healthier. He said he had no doubt Cheek would successfully complete her probation.

Douglas County District Court Judge Sally Pokorny speaks during sentencing for Alisia A. Cheek on Nov. 20, 2019.

Cheek told the judge she had grown and continued to grow, and that sobriety had helped her family dynamic.

Prosecutor David Melton told Pokorny the state wants Cheek to continue to follow the recommendations of a sex offender evaluation she completed. Clarke said Cheek has already completed a substance abuse evaluation and treatment, and she’s now in an aftercare situation.

As a probation condition, Cheek is not to consume any drugs or alcohol, and she must submit to random testing. The judge assessed about $300 in fees for the state’s felony DNA database and the State Board of Indigents’ Defense Services but waived the rest of the costs.

Cheek has an underlying sentence of 12 months in prison with the possibility of a 20% good time credit, should her probation be revoked. Should that happen, Cheek has 70 days served.

She is to have no contact with the two teens, the judge said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to release Cheek’s booking photo to the Journal-World before and after she pleaded in the case.
