The Burroughs Creek Trail is shown heading south from its intersection with East 15th Street, shortly before sunset on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018.
A woman walking her dog early Wednesday morning on the Burroughs Creek Trail reported that a man tried to grab her, but she was able to escape.
Police were dispatched to the trail shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to a media release from Officer Derrick Smith.
The woman told police that about 6:15 a.m. she was walking her dog on the trail just south of East 13th Street when she saw the man walking toward her, Smith said. The woman said the man grabbed her arm, but she was able to release his hand and run away.

The suspect then ran to the south, Smith said. He was described as about 6 feet tall with a thin build — “similar to a soccer player” and of unknown race. He was wearing dark-colored clothing.
“The motivation of the suspect is unknown at this time,” Smith said.
Smith said officers responding to the call canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The Burroughs Creek Trail lies west of Haskell Avenue, running from 11th to 23rd street in eastern Lawrence.
