A leading voice on the role that science plays in society and in the issue of climate change will deliver a public lecture at the University of Kansas next month.
Naomi Oreskes, co-author of “Merchants of Doubt,” will deliver an address titled “Why Trust Science?” at 5:30 p.m. on April 5 at The Commons on KU’s Lawrence campus.
Oreskes, who also recently authored the book “Science on a Mission: American Oceanography from the Cold War to Climate Change,” also will host a smaller group “Coffee @ The Commons” event for students, faculty, staff and community members at 2 p.m. on April 5 at The Commons. That event will feature an open discussion on how Oreskes has become a “historian of disinformation” involving science and current affairs.
In addition to her writing career, Oreskes is a professor of history of science at Harvard University, where she researches topics involving the history of environmental sciences, science policy, religion and science, among numerous other topics.
Oreskes’ events on the KU campus will be held in person, but the evening event also will be available via Zoom. People can register for the Zoom presentation at: https://bit.ly/OreskesKU.
