Starting Monday, City of Lawrence contractors will work to restripe lines across downtown streets overnight, temporarily closing those streets and limiting parking.
Michael Leos, a spokesperson with the city’s Municipal Services and Operations department, told the Journal-World via email the pavement parking project will work on Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire Streets between 6th and 11th Streets. The crews will also repaint those numbered streets between Vermont and New Hampshire Streets as part of the work.
The work will take place overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Leos said, but there is the “occasional possibility” it will extend slightly into the morning. The crews will begin painting Vermont Street starting on Monday, May 18, which will include restriping parking lines, center lines and turn lanes. Once the work finishes on Vermont Street, the crews will move next to Massachusetts Street, then New Hampshire Street.
Leos said streets will be closed to vehicle traffic and parking will be prohibited during the work. The city will post no parking signs in the impacted areas that will also tell drivers what time they need to move their cars by.
Leos said the city anticipates the project would end the week of June 1, although weather delays could impact the project’s completion.
