Event and free meal being offered in Lawrence to heighten awareness about veterans and suicide

Community members are invited to an event and free meal Tuesday that’s designed to heighten awareness regarding military veterans and suicide prevention.

The half-day event begins at 9 a.m. at KU’s Burge Union. It’s free to attend, but participants are asked to sign up for no-cost tickets online.

The event — sponsored by the KU Legal Clinic in partnership with the Veterans Justice League and Robert Irvine Foundation — will feature crisis management skill building and a resource fair, as well as three experts in the field of suicide prevention and risk factors.

Sponsors say the event is designed to “build your toolkit for especially hard days, connect you with your community, and share food with new friends.”

The free lunch will be provided by the Robert Irvine Foundation, which supports the physical and mental well-being of service members, veterans, first responders and their families.
