Voters invited to hear from Douglas County Commission candidates at upcoming public forum

The public is invited to a Douglas County Commission candidate forum later this month to hear candidates speak on topics of concern for local voters.
The candidate forum is hosted by the Lawrence-Douglas County Chapter of Women for Kansas. It will be held on Thursday, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium, 707 Vermont St. The forum will be moderated by former Lawrence City Commissioner Courtney Shipley.
Three of the five Douglas County Commission seats are up for election this year, and all three incumbents are seeking reelection.
In District 1, incumbent Democrat Patrick Kelly, will face a primary challenger, Milton Scott. In District 4, incumbent Democrat Gene Dorsey will face a primary challenge from Ethan Spurling. The winners in these two primaries will be running unopposed in the general election.
Meanwhile, in District 5, incumbent Democrat Erica Anderson will not face a primary challenger, but she will face Libertarian candidate Kirsten Kuhn in the general election.
