A small parking lot south of Douglas County’s historic courthouse will close for construction next week, and meanwhile, additional parking spots will open at the nearby parking lot behind the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.
The lot for the historic courthouse will be closed for construction starting on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The construction project will double the number of parking spots in the lot, increasing its capacity from 20 to 36, according to a social media post from Douglas County. The project is anticipated to be completed in November, weather permitting.
In addition, there will be 18 additional parking spots opening at the lot south of the JLEC on Tuesday. Many parking spots were not accessible during the construction of the addition to the JLEC, which will include six courtrooms, judges’ chambers, office areas for District Court staff and new holding areas for people in custody making court appearances.
“We appreciate the patience of employees, neighbors, and the public during the ongoing construction near the historic courthouse and the JLEC,” the social media post said.
