Douglas County has announced a date for a town hall meeting about a proposed project extending Wakarusa Drive south of Lawrence.
The town hall, first referenced by Douglas County Administrator Sarah Plinsky in a memo to the Douglas County Commission last week, has been set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Greenbush Resource Center, formerly the Wakarusa Valley School, 1104 East 1000 Road.
A brief release from the county about the meeting notes that it will serve as an opportunity for the community to hear more about the project, ask questions and provide comments. That release also directs readers to a report on the proposed extension prepared by Douglas County Public Works in July.
The Journal-World recently took a look at that report, which was shared with commissioners a day after leaders with the City of Lawrence opted against providing any funding for the project. The two entities originally were poised to pay about $9 million toward the project, a partnership with the Kansas Department of Transportation, with the city paying 40% of that cost and the county paying 60%.
