Several Douglas County agencies are partnering to host a workshop about mental illness and addiction resources this weekend.

The free workshop is set to take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 19, at the Flory Meeting Hall on the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. in Lawrence. According to the event flyer, the workshop is meant to help people learn how to navigate local resources on mental health and addiction.

The United Way of Douglas County, Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and the county government are among the organizations partnering to host the workshop. Guest speakers will include Bruce Liese, a University of Kansas Medical Center professor and clinical director of the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment; and Bert Nash peer support program manager Lisa Cyrus.

Following each presentation, there will be opportunities for discussion and questions with the speakers and other peer specialists.

Coffee and pastries from Uplift Coffee will also be for sale from 9 to 10 a.m. at the start of the event.

While the event is free, reservations are required. You can register on the United Way of Douglas County’s website.
