Douglas County leaders at their meeting Wednesday will continue their review of local organizations’ requests for American Rescue Plan Act funding.
That review started with a work session at last week’s County Commission meeting, during which commissioners pinpointed some proposals that might rank as their top priorities so far. There are nearly 100 requests on the table for the commission’s consideration, with only about $21 million in COVID relief funding to distribute.
This week, the topic is not only slated for another work session but also is included as an item on the regular meeting agenda; commissioners agreed last week that more opportunities to discuss the funding requests would be ideal.
The first work session’s discussion largely revolved around the requests that didn’t come from county departments; those requests alone add up to more than $63 million. County staff also explained the process for analyzing funding applications, which included sorting requests into tiers of priority from high to low.
In other business, the commission will hear an update on Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical’s annual compliance report.
Wednesday’s work session will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. The meeting will also be available by Zoom. For meeting information, visit the county’s website: dgcoks.org/commissionmeetings.
