A winter storm watch will be in effect for north central and northeast Kansas on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018.

Several inches of snow could be on the way to the Lawrence area Sunday, possibly creating difficult travel conditions for residents making their way home from Thanksgiving.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter storm watch beginning Sunday morning into the afternoon for Douglas County.

Heavy snow combined with wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour could create near whiteout conditions in portions of north central and northeast Kansas, the weather service said.

The weather service’s localized forecast for Douglas County predicts snow possibly mixed with rain in the morning, with a chance for snow in the afternoon. Areas of blowing snow are possible throughout the day, and moderate snow accumulation is expected — the weather service says northeast Kansas could see 2 to 5 inches of snow.
