Free State Festival, St. John’s fiesta and more upcoming events in Lawrence

Friday

• It’s the final weekend for the Lawrence Art Guild’s All-Member Show at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Also closing after Saturday is the “Undercurrents” exhibit by printmaker Taro Takizawa.

• It’s also closing weekend for the production of “Something Rotten!” at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive. The last performances are tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are available at theatrelawrence.com.

• Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vermont St., invites the public to the Art from the Heart festival from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be snacks, beverages, live music from Boys of the Prairie and a chance to buy creations from local artists. Admission is $15. The art festival continues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with free admission.

• The “Midsummer Night on Mass” sale is from 4 to 10 p.m. in downtown Lawrence. Many businesses will be offering special deals, and there will be live music and entertainment on the sidewalks. See msnonmass.com for a list of participating businesses.

• The Summer Youth Theatre’s interactive production “A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Fantasy on the Dance Floor” opens at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., with repeat performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday In-person tickets ($18) and livestream tickets ($12) are available at lawrenceartscenter.org.

Saturday

• The Lawrence Farmers’ Market is open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., rain or shine, at 824 New Hampshire St. with fresh produce, baked goods, crafts and more.

• Dale Willey Honda, 2851 Iowa St., invites pet-owners to a microchipping event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., The first 100 pets will get their microchip for free, and microchips will be $25 per pet after that. Kona Ice and hamburgers will be available.

• The Douglas County Amateur Radio organization offers free demonstrations at 1 p.m. at Centennial Park, 600 Rockledge Road. The annual field day caps off Amateur Radio Week and offers a chance for the public to see ham radio’s capabilities. Participants can also learn how to get their own FCC license.

• The Art Cart, a free drop-in art activity station for children and adults at the Spencer Museum of Art, 1301 Mississippi St., presents “Medieval Times” from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees can learn about medieval art and make a faux stained-glass creation.

• The annual St. John’s Mexican Fiesta is from 4 to 10 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish, 1234 Kentucky St. Enjoy authentic Mexican food, music, dancing, games and much more. No pets or outside food or beverages are permitted.

Sunday

• Repair and repurpose your broken or torn items at the Repair Studio in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., from 3 to 5 p.m. This monthly event matches fix-it experts with community members who have items in need of repair. Registration is not required.

• “How to Watch the Tour de France Like a Pro,” a casual talk by Dan Hughes, will be at 4 p.m. at Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop, 804 Massachusetts St. Tickets for the talk are free at eventbrite.com; there are add-on food specials available as well.

Monday

• Landmark Work Day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dole Institute, 2350 Petefish Drive. Watch Stan Herd creating his Bob Dole tribute earthwork. More details at doleinstitute.org.

• The Free State Festival, an annual event featuring independent films, live music, comedy and art, opens with a screening of “Gumbo Coalition” at 7 p.m. at the Dole Institute of Politics, 2350 Petefish Drive. UnidosUS President and civil rights activist Janet Murguía will also speak at the event. Admission is free; see freestatefestival.org for more information.

Tuesday

• The Tuesday farmers market is from 4 to 6 p.m. in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.

• The Free State Festival continues with a showing of “Garden City, Kansas” at 5 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., and a post-screening Q&A with the filmmaker. Admission is $12; see freestatefestival.org for details and ticket information.

• The Cicada Open Mic, a free monthly event, is from 7 to 9 p.m. at Art Love Collective, 646 Vermont St. Poets, musicians and performers can express themselves in a safe, supportive environment.

Wednesday

• The Lawrence City Band continues its free summer concert series at 8 p.m. in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St. Bring blankets and lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive.

Thursday

• Free State Festival events include a screening of “On These Grounds” at 5 p.m., at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., with a Q&A session with the filmmaker. Admission is $12. Neo-classical pianist BLKBOK will follow with a concert at 8 p.m., also at Liberty Hall; an artist Q&A will follow the show. Tickets are $22.
