The Board of Canvassers on Monday certified the results of the Aug. 4 primary election in Douglas County.
The total number of ballots counted was 33,296, making voter turnout 41.5%, the second-largest turnout for a primary in Douglas County.
The county has 80,215 registered voters.
The board approved 491 provisional ballots on Monday. A ballot is considered provisional when a person is allowed to vote but with the understanding that a variety of factors may disqualify the vote.
This year’s ballot contained the question whether the state constitution should be amended to allow for Supreme Court justice elections, a proposal that was soundly defeated.
The largest primary election turnout in the county was in 2022, when a proposed constitutional amendment to restrict abortion was on the ballot. That proposal also failed.
Canvassing routinely occurs after every election. The board, overseen by Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew, consists of the five Douglas County commissioners.
