As two commissioners visit Algeria next week, the Lawrence City Commission will still be meeting Tuesday, but with a lighter-than-normal agenda.

No items were listed on the commission’s regular agenda for the meeting as of Friday afternoon. There were a few items on the consent agenda, including a policy for the city’s investments and an agreement to lease dark fiber on Iowa Street to a private company. The consent agenda is a group of items that are normally considered routine and can be voted on and approved in a single action without discussion.

As the Journal-World recently reported, Mayor Brad Finkeldei and City Commissioner Amber Sellers will be in Algeria next week. They were among several dozen people from Lawrence who were invited by the Algerian embassy as thanks for helping host the Algerian men’s national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The City Commission meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St.

Starting at $4.45/week.
