City recreation trails behind Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be closed for a while to repair damage caused by recent storms, Lawrence Parks and Recreation said on its social media pages this week.

The department said the trails that extend to East 1000 Road have suffered “erosion, mud-covered paths, and damage to a bridge along the route.” While the post didn’t provide an estimate of how long the closure would last, it did say the repairs would take some time, and that it would keep users updated on when the trails would reopen.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding while we address these issues,” the department said. “Please avoid the closed trails and check back for updates. Thank you for helping us keep our parks safe!”
