Manhattan ? Frank Mason III had 16 points and five assists in 33 minutes with just one turnover as Kansas won at rival Kansas State’s Bramlage Coliseum, 72-63, on Saturday.

“He’s been good three or four games in a row,” KU coach Bill Self said of Mason, who also had two steals.

“He’s just not making shots yet,” Self said after Mason’s 5-of-9 effort. The junior guard was 1-for-3 from three.

“I think he’s playing at a high level,” Self added.

Mason and KSU’s D.J. Johnson were hit with a double technical the second half.

“Those are plays you can’t make,” Self said. “We’ve got no Perry (Ellis), no Landen (Lucas), no ‘Mari (Traylor, Jamari) and we’ve got to play without Frank because of the double tech.”

Self was able to laugh about the woofing that drew the double tech after KU’s victory.

“His roots … where he grew up (Virginia) come out when his manhood is challenged, no question,” Self said. “I didn’t see it,” Self added of what might have caused the ref to call a ‘T’ on both.
