A Lawrence man was convicted Friday of beating a college student he met over the social media dating application Tinder.

Shane Steven Allen, 31, was arrested on April 22 after he was accused of confining a 20-year-old woman to his home and beating her repeatedly over a six-day period.

The woman suffered numerous injuries, including cuts and bruises all over her body, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Douglas County District Court.

Initially, Allen faced one felony charge of kidnapping and four felony charges of battery. A single count of possession of drug paraphernalia was later added.

On Friday afternoon Allen appeared in Douglas County District Court, where he pleaded no contest to two felony counts of aggravated battery. As a part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges.

Douglas County District Court Judge Sally Pokorny accepted Allen’s plea and convicted him of the two felony charges. She then ordered a presentence investigation, which will help determine Allen’s sentence.

Aggravated battery is a level-seven felony, according to the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines. The maximum sentence a judge may give is 34 months in prison, while the minimum sentence is 11 months of probation.

Pokorny said Allen could also face a potential fine of $100,000.

Allen is scheduled to appear in court on at 9 a.m. Dec. 22 for sentencing.
