A truck caught on fire in a field south of the South Lawrence Trafficway, near 27th and Wakarusa streets, at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The truck was stuck in the field and surrounding brush also caught fire, said Chris Moore, Wakarusa Township fire chief. The fire was south of the roadway and did not block traffic.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical engines were not able to access the fire within the field, so Wakarusa Township brought in a brush truck to the scene.

Moore said the cause of the fire was unknown.
