Authorities did not say Monday why a Topeka man was jailed in Douglas County on a warrant for a Shawnee County burglary and battery case.

The suspect, Anthony Fitzgerald Talbert, had ties to a convenience store at the Hudson Crossing development, according to published reports. The development company’s vice president, Corey M. Brown, 39, of Topeka, was found dead in January west of Lecompton, and authorities are investigating the death as a homicide.

According to Douglas County Jail records, Talbert, 25, was booked into jail Monday morning on several charges in the Shawnee County case, including aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, aggravated intimidation of a witness and aggravated assault. He is one of three suspects in the Nov. 10 incident that apparently isn’t related to the homicide investigation.

Talbert’s bond is listed at $500,000, the same as his two Topeka co-defendants, Monroe E. Lockhart, 38, and Jacob Barnett, 21, who are being held in jail in Shawnee County.

According to published reports, Talbert was arrested in Arizona earlier this month in connection with the Shawnee County case.

Lockhart was an owner of a convenience store, Mo’s Express, at the Hudson Crossing development, and according to the Topeka Capital-Journal, Talbert was a manager at the store.

Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators and Topeka police have been investigating the Brown homicide. Brown’s body was found Jan. 5 in extreme northwestern Douglas County near the Shawnee County line. Investigators have only said a gun was involved in the murder.

Topeka police have said they also are investigating whether a burned vehicle owned by Lockhart that was found in Topeka hours after Brown disappeared was linked to the homicide.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said Monday the Brown homicide investigation was ongoing and that no one had been arrested.
