One arrested for disorderly conduct after gun incident
A 20-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of disorderly conduct after reportedly pointing a gun at signs and a person while riding in a car.
Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman said officers responded to a call near 19th and Harper streets that a man in a light-colored Cadillac was displaying a gun.
The man was reportedly pointing the gun, which was equipped with a laser scope, at stop signs and a person. No shots were fired and Bordman said the person who was reportedly aimed at could not be contacted.
The car and its three occupants were proceeding north on Massachusetts Street when officers first intercepted the vehicle. The Cadillac and its occupants, two black male passengers and a white male driver, finally pulled over near the intersection of 10th and New Hampshire streets. Because there were reports of a firearm inside the vehicle, officers had to enact a felony car stop procedure, which involved surrounding the vehicle and extracting its three occupants one by one.
A weapon fitting the witness’s description was found inside the vehicle, complete with a laser sight.
Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said no one was harmed, only alarmed, during the incident.
