Investigators confirm that lightning strike caused fire at century-old Clinton church; estimated damage is $1 million

Investigators have determined that a lightning strike was the cause of the fire that destroyed the Clinton Presbyterian Church Friday morning. “It was natural causes,” said Jill Bronaugh, a spokeswoman at the Office of the State Fire Marshal in Topeka. Clinton Lake level remains extraordinarily high; water release begins

Updated at 7:43 p.m. Tuesday It has been a record-breaking summer at Clinton Lake, where the water level surpassed a high set 24 years ago.
