Adios, amigos

Well, it's been one of the worst-kept secrets of 2011, but it's time to officially announce that Friday, July 1, is my last day here at LJWorld.com.

I've accepted a position as a consultant at Digital Evolution Group in Overland Park.

Despite the 24/7 nature of this gig, I will miss interacting with you on a daily (and nightly and hourly) basis. I've enjoyed getting to know our online community, hearing your opinions and sharing laughs. And there were definitely some laughs. I've also learned a lot about the more somber details of community moderating. And as there are funny moments, there are serious ones, as well.

I'll continue moderating the site through Friday afternoon. If you need anything before then, I'm here for you. After that, Jonathan Kealing is your man.

following your departure, will you let us know the truth about MSL?

GUMnNUTS 5 years, 3 months ago

Best of luck on your new endeavour Whitney. You can already hear the weeping of LJW commenters.

wmathews 5 years, 3 months ago

I said I would miss you a little! Jeeeeeez!

somedude20 5 years, 3 months ago

People will miss your end and some of us will never get to eat your brownie so I guess this is a sad day but that is ok as life goes on, maybe there will be a Jonathan's end taking up space round here. Good luck with your new job! I always thought that you and Hollis made a cute couple!

Rock on kid!

MarcoPogo 5 years, 3 months ago

Now, once again, we will feel the wrath of the Kealing!!!

beatrice 5 years, 3 months ago

What, the new job won't let you hang out on line all day with the rest of us? Bummer.

Best of luck Shirley.

wmathews 5 years, 3 months ago

Oh man. The Lindsey/Shirley days feel like years ago. Yet, they were last June.

Paul R Getto 5 years, 3 months ago

Good luck and thanks for all the hard work. The sandbox will miss you. Hope JK knows how to change the kitty litter when it needs it. Paul

shnops40 5 years, 3 months ago

Todd Haley is looking for the proper t-shirt to wear for your last day at ljw. Or maybe he's fleshing out his WWE persona...

goodcountrypeople 5 years, 3 months ago

You were brave to endure so long--hope you're headed for happier shores. You have a great, upbeat attitude!

boxers_or_briefs 5 years, 3 months ago

How long did you work for the ljworld anyway? It seems like you just started...to me anyway.

wmathews 5 years, 3 months ago

Nearly two years. I've been online editor for just over a year.

Sarah St. John 5 years, 3 months ago

I shall miss you! You've always been so helpful!

Did any of the commenters ever guess your nickname? :-)

LadyJ 5 years, 3 months ago

Was actually thinking about that too and wondering if she was going to tell us before she leaves. You will be very, very, missed. Friday doesn't give us long to plan one final mischievous prank though. But could you open a back door before you leave?

wmathews 5 years, 3 months ago

No nicknames and definitely no back doors.

ZacharyCobb 5 years, 3 months ago

I can't get in on these LJW inside jokes so I had to import my own.

RoeDapple 5 years, 3 months ago

I have been accused of being a little verbose . . But only one word comes to mind . . . sob

Good Luck Whitney! You will do well wherever you go!

LadyJ 5 years, 3 months ago

That was hilarious, glad I didn't miss it. Smitty needs to make a remark too.

Terry Sexton 5 years, 3 months ago

Could JK at least use your avatar for a while to lessen the visual shock to my system?

LadyJ 5 years, 3 months ago

Thinking she needs to get JK a long blonde wig so he can take a new picture in it.

LadyJ 5 years, 2 months ago

Only JK can answer that, but I say it is possible. There's a challange for you DIST put Whitney's hair on JK.

RoeDapple 5 years, 3 months ago

And with the lightest touch of her pinky finger the OTS goddess disapearededed another disrespectful subject of the blog! All hail Whitney!

RoeDapple 5 years, 3 months ago

Oh sadgirl you are so far out of the loop . . . Lighten up, it's all tongue in cheek

RoeDapple 5 years, 3 months ago

appreciate you calling me human though

ZacharyCobb 5 years, 3 months ago

Had to take some time to chime on this because it bummed me out so much. I read RoeDapple's post and got excited because the idea of interacting with an actual God was really cool. But then you come along and tell us that Whitney is in fact not a real god. This whole thing has been an emotional roller coaster.

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

ZC, if I am a god, I think it's only fitting you purchase me a "congrats on being a god" gift, because being a god is a pretty big life change. I'd like a slow loris. Thanks in advance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLdQ3UhLoD4

notaubermime 5 years, 2 months ago

Pretty sure that they are illegal for private individuals to own in the United States.

LadyJ 5 years, 3 months ago

Hey, maybe Whitney could make guest appearance and be the online monitor for a day every now and then. It would give JK a day off once in a while.

RoeDapple 5 years, 3 months ago

iz it to laet to maek whitney a honneraryry cuzin

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

Pretty sure the title of this book will be "How I Rid The World of Mustard One Commenter At A Time."

verity 5 years, 3 months ago

Yeah, methinks Whitley is goin' places.

riverdrifter 5 years, 3 months ago

Sorry to see you go Whitney. "Be careful out there among those English."

LadyJ 5 years, 3 months ago

Boy, that article titled "Toothless Law" had me thinking they were going to pass a law against people having missing teeth. The cuzins would have been in big trouble. They are safe, for now.

roadwarrior 5 years, 3 months ago

awww whitney. Such a great sense of humor, appropriately tucked under charming professionalism. Best of luck. (wonder what hidden screen name she will now take. we must suss it out. lol)

BruceWayne 5 years, 2 months ago

hwitney...do you like cool hwip? free the blog...you know you want to.

classclown 5 years, 2 months ago

Will you be taking the threads with you allowing the comment section to be part of the 21st again?

LadyJ 5 years, 2 months ago

You would say that about Whitney but not Anna who has displayed a lot more over-inflated sense of self much?

Sarah St. John 5 years, 2 months ago

I suggest "And My Name is Whitney" t-shirts for Casual Friday, Whit''s last day.

(And the streets of Lawrence will once again be safe for mustard-lovers!)

LadyJ 5 years, 2 months ago

How about something we can tie to our car antennas? Is there ribbons with corn dogs on them? I will eat a corn dog in Whitney's honor on Friday and to be sure I don't offend anyone, I will not put anything on it.

Kathy Theis-Getto 5 years, 2 months ago

To one of the ladies donning a white hat - here's to your future! Thanks for everything!

Sheryl Wiggins 5 years, 2 months ago

best of luck Half-Whit (and that's just my guess on your double secret nickname, not a slam against your intellect, I promise). Thanks for the tip on making brownies---I have now (mostly) mastered the fine art. Finn

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

I tried to make cornbread squares in the perfect brownie pan and forgot to spray Pam all over it. Big mistake. Now I have ridiculous mess on my hands. I might have to let the whole thing soak overnight in order to clean it properly.

RoeDapple 5 years, 2 months ago

"One of the worst kept secrets on 2011?

Over-inflated sense of self much?"

Didn't you know? There are no secrets on the internet.

Maddy Griffin 5 years, 2 months ago

Good luck in your new job! You will be missed.

Kontum1972 5 years, 2 months ago

congrats Whitney..BoL will miss that cute nose

Flap Doodle 5 years, 2 months ago

Will the new wrangler of the board let us say "w**f!"?

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

I sent you a PM to help out with this. You can always email me, too, at wmathews@ljworld.com. Well, you can do that until 5 p.m. Friday.

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

It's a holiday weekend, so there's an extra day of planning I need to do before I go. Though I do have to turn in my company equipment prior to 5 p.m., so maybe more like 4:55 p.m.

The brownies are mine. Don't you forget it.

Mary Darst 5 years, 2 months ago

The boys are really going to miss you. Good luck in your new adventure.

beatrice 5 years, 2 months ago

I wonder who is going to have the honor of being the last person to have a post removed by Whitney? Or who the last person Whitney disappears will be? That would have been a much better contest than the 100 degree contest.

wmathews 5 years, 2 months ago

Yes, I am leaving by choice. I already live in JoCo, so the commute will be much, much shorter!

I have no pearls of wisdom. I just roll with the punches.
