Best progams with the most success is where clients feel ownership and take pride in what they receive. They not only appreacite it but many times come back and help others. But the selection committee needs to choose clients whose abilities can properly maintain and improve what we are helping them acquire.

If a person voluteer for recognition it is not volunteering, it is glory seeking or resume' padding..

I think the question is bad because most volunteers to it because they want to help people. A lot of organizations are dependent on volunteers to keep going. Lawrence Memorial Hospital uses a lot of them, from those who greet you at the front desk of whatever section you are in, take your information, to those who help with transferring paperwork to the computer. The LINK kitchen that serves meals to hungry people relies totally on volunteers. I think it would be nice to have some way to recognize all of the volunteers who do so much for our community.

The only reason to be a volunteer is to get public adulation.

The best honor I got was as a camp counselor was when a camper pulled me and another counselor to the front of the group and told everyone how much he appreciated us as counselors. It was a very humbling experience and a reminder of why we do what we do.

i donated money to john doe, you know john doe, he's fallen on hard times, so i gave him some money and it makes me feel good about myself because i can tell others how i helped him out because he's down on his luck or have you heard? is the best feeling one can get....and of course, volunteering so i can tell everyone how wonderful and good i am ranks up there as well. thanks, but it was nothin' but something someone else would do if they thought about it, but thanks for the pat on the back...human contact makes me feel even greater....i get an award for my greatness? please, something more than a cookie.
