Never tried one, but if I ever found myself in a situation, say if I ever had to fly a plane, I might.

Not normally... but while I'm deployed I'm working a 14 hour day, then going to the gym for another hour or two after that. By the time I come down from the adrenaline rush another 2 hours have passed and I can finally fall asleep... meaning I'm getting about 4 hours of sleep before repeating the process all over again.

So I'm kind of relying on these drinks to get me through the day and allowing me to have the energy to workout.

I like to give these to my kids. I usually give them 3 or 4 cans of red bull throughout the day. It doesn't seem to affect them too badly though. They both have ADHD and are pretty rowdy, they just can't sit still for a minute. But they are just so cute and they like it so i figure, why not? *

  • Please note: Above remarks do not reflect truth. No real people or similarity to real people is intended. I do not have children. I do not drink red bull. I believe that Americans often do not equate consequences with actions.

Add a little pepper and I'll bet they'd make a peppy colonic!

Come on T_O_B, nothing a big plate of biscuits and gravy, then sipping some good strong black coffee to wash it down.

I like Lemonade Shock Sugar Free Amp before I work out. I don't get the sugar crash, it gives me a boost while working out, and I have sweated out any caffeine by the time I am done.

Mud in my eye please! Extra dirty and Italian roast!

I read somewhere they're great for relieving constipation AND also great for trips to the emergency room for a tachycardia.

That sounds like a bad combination to me. I think I'm having a heart attack, where's the toilet?

If I could only get my hands on an IV bag and an endless supply of Monster Absolute Zero...

Way back in the old days when Red Bull came out, I had mutliple Red Bull and Vodkas at a bachelor party in Vegas. Bad move. The combination gave me flu like issues minus the puking. Shivering, headache, anxiety. I'm not built for that. I don't even drink coffee anymore. I will have the occassional (most days) mid-tier shelf bourbon and diet coke.

Friend had to stop drinking them because her arms and part of her head became numb ... so if you don't mind stuff like that, by all means gulp it down.

OH, I see it is in the minority. KS better outlaw them.

Adverse effects associated with caffeine consumption in amounts greater than 400 mg include nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, increased urination, abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmia), and stomach upset. Consumption also has been known to cause pupil dilation when taken with certain antidepressants. Energy drinks do not provide electrolytes, and have a higher likelihood of an energy "crash-and-burn" effect. Caffeine in energy drinks can excrete water from the body to dilute high concentrations of sugar entering the blood stream, leading to dehydration. If the body is dehydrated by 1%, performance is decreased by up to 10%.

I've been told today that the niacin in 5hr energy cleans your system of drugs, but that came from a drug user so who knows. Made me smile though, urban myths.

Careful kids, mixing that stuff with alcohol can be a deadly combo.

jhawkinsf 3 years, 1 month ago

I've tried them a couple of times, but I like coffee better.
