always afraid they would just trash it.
I'm pretty sure in elementary school we were required to in Lawrence
I used to write to lots of MLB teams when I was a kid in the early 80s. Many would send me schedules, stickers, etc. Several also sent me autographed photos of players. Man, it was cool to receive a letter addressed to me from the NY Yankees!!! I bet teams don't do that stuff anymore...
Yes! I wrote to Clinton when I was a kid. Later, I wrote a gushing email to a public health figure I looked up to, and he wrote back offering to help me get an internship with him. I about died.
I wrote Billy Joel a handwritten 11 page (front and back) letter when I was 13 years old. He send back a typed letter and an autographed picture the next week. I thought that was pretty classy. And no, it didn't have puke on it and he didn't drive into my house.
I wrote Old Yeller once. I hear that he ate it.
I think the last time I did it was when I was in 6th grade.
Why? I don't care what they think and they don't care what I think. Just a waste of time.
When I was a teen, I wrote one to Valerie Bertinelli right after she married Eddie Van Halen. I'm pretty sure I wrote to one or more of the presidents as school assignments. I had a huge crush on Ralph Macchio and Scott Baio when I was younger, so I'm pretty sure I wrote them also.
When I was 16, I wrote to Sargeant Shriver, who was a former Ambassador to France, brother-in-law to JFK and RFK and the husband of Eunice Shriver who founded the Special Olympics. I wrote dozens of other letters to other former ambassadors and politicians but he was the only one who wrote back and encouraged me to follow my interests in politics and public service. I still have that letter.
I wrote to Former President Ronald Regan and received a response. I have also written to James Reynolds-Abe from Days of Our Lives. Since I live in McLouth and he is from Oskie, we have met twice now too. Really a nice guy! I did write to Katheryn McGregor. She played Mrs. Olson on Little House on the Prairie. Never got a response but I have seen where she is still alive but not doing well. Just this past school year I wrote to Judy Blume and Betsy Byers, both authors and both have written back.
I wrote a letter to George Brett when I was eleven. He was my childhood hero, big time. I got an autographed picture in the mail a few weeks later and the signature looked like the real deal. I don't think I'd ever been so excited.
A couple years ago I heard that he's a huge arrogant jerk. I hope that's a bunch of crap. It sucks to hear that about someone you grew up admiring so much.
