The best thing about this 4th was hearing about BUSH being heckled at his FIRST visit to Monticello!!

Holy cow I get SOOOOO tired of hearing people complain about West Lawrence. It doesn't even matter the subject, it's all about blaming the "rich" people on the West side of town. Bad roads in East Lawrence? Blame West Lawrence. Sales suffering downtown? Blame West Lawrence. Don't like the chosen location of the FREE fireworks display? Blame West Lawrence. If George Bush were a Lawrencian, I bet he would live in West Lawrence. Probably even (gasp) west of Wakarusa! So you chose character over creature comforts when selecting your home, congratulations. Perhaps someone else has different priorities. What business is it of yours how people choose to spend their money? If the residents of West Lawrence truly are the ultra-rich, antisocial, self-absorbed people that they are portrayed to be in the recurring comments we've all seen on these message boards, then we should be thanking them for pumping so many dollars into our local economy, tax coffers, etc., while not burdening us with their elitist presence in the "real" parts of town. It makes me wonder who it is that really has the superiority complex.

Although I dislike firework bans, I am sitting in Bonner right now where I have heard nothing but popping all day with the realization I will probably not get to sleep for another three hours.....firework bans do have their upside.

The 4th of July celebrates the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.

Don't you mean the Declaration of Independence? The Constitution wasn't ratified until September 17, 1787. I thought we were celebrating the 4th of July, not the 17th of September. Maybe you should read a history book before you try and spout your political rhetoric on this wonderful day. M0r0n.

Celebrating the country's independence from England. No longer a colony under the rule of another country.
