This 2000 blue and white Malibu Wakesetter boat and trailer were reported stolen from Arnie’s Boat Sales & Service, 2036 East 1400 Road, in December 2018. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is trying to solve the theft of an unusual item, at least in these parts: a boat.

The office is seeking the public’s help to figure out who stole the 2000 blue and white Malibu Wakesetter boat from Arnie’s Boat Sales & Service, 2036 East 1400 Road, where it was being stored on dry land for the winter, Sgt. Kristen Channel said. The privately owned boat and its trailer were taken in December, sometime over the holidays.

“The sheriff’s office rarely receives boat-theft calls, so this is kind of unusual for our area,” Channel said.

Channel added that the top portion of the ski boat was covered with bright blue shrink wrap for winterizing. The trailer is black with white striping. The boat’s value is around $28,000.

Earlier this month the sheriff’s office shared a picture of the boat on social media with this plea: “If you know someone who got a new boat in the last 30 days under weird circumstances or is trying to sell a boat that resembles this one, call us.”

But still no luck, Channel said this week.

The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information about the boat’s whereabouts to call 785-841-0007 or the Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline 785-843-TIPS (8477).
