A man is in custody and another was sent to the hospital after a stabbing Sunday night outside of a Lawrence restaurant.

Police responded just before 9:30 p.m. to El Potro Mexican Cafe, 3333 Iowa St., where two workers from the restaurant had engaged in an argument, according to a post on social media from the Lawrence Police Department.

During the argument one of the men, later identified as Edgar Oropeza Diaz, 28, of Lawrence, is alleged to have stabbed the other man, leaving wounds on his upper body and face, the post said. The injured man was taken to an area trauma center with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

Police later located Diaz in a parked car near 24th and Ridge Court, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated battery and is being held without bond. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, the post said.
