A Lawrence man, charged in a trio of felony cases involving teens, has been convicted of aggravated robbery and a child sex crime as a result.

Kaspar A. Engelberg, 20, entered a plea of no contest last week to one count each of aggravated robbery and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, according to Cheryl Wright Kunard, assistant to Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson. She said Engelberg will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Engelberg’s sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 2.

Engelberg’s three pending felony cases were resolved with the same plea deal.

In April, Engelberg was charged with aggravated battery of a 15-year-old, according to the complaint in that case.

In early July, he was charged with aggravated robbery for stealing an iPhone from another teen while armed with an unspecified dangerous weapon, according to the complaint. In the same case, he also was charged with conspiring to commit aggravated robbery, contributing to a child’s misconduct and violating a protective order. Corresponding police activity logs show the robbery was reported at 1 a.m. in the 1400 block of East 24th Street.

Later in July, Engelberg was charged with four counts in all of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties with a child, against a victim who was 15, according to the complaint.

Engelberg also has been charged with probation violations in two older misdemeanor cases: contributing to a child’s misconduct and interference with law enforcement in 2017, and criminal threat and property damage in 2016.

Wright Kunard said the parole violation allegations are expected to be addressed at Engelberg’s sentencing.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office previously denied the Journal-World’s request for Engelberg’s mug shot. As of Monday, he did not yet appear on the Kansas sex offender registry website.
